Happy New Year! My first outing this year was to Nest, a housewares boutique in Detroit. Owned by the same owners of City Bird, which I love, Nest is equally as awesome. I wanted one of everything! A beautiful framed butterfly "papillions" print came home with me as a new addition to our living room. I snapped a few photos with my retro camera ap. If you haven't been, I would recommend it. The event is from 10am-4pm at the Ecco event center downtown. I love TC and plan on a good meal, some local beer, and a haunted hay ride with friends. Happy fall to you.

Back in Michigan after a relaxing trip to New Mexico for a wedding reception and Colorado to visit my aunt and uncle. Seeing the mountains around you is an amazing thing. I could get used to it! The wildlife is everywhere in CO. Deer, turkeys, horses, and porcupine to name a few. Sitting on the porch, drinking a few Pacificos, and cooking delicious meals was the highlight of the trip. Next show is Crafty Bastards this weekend in DC. I haven't been since a kid and can't wait for an awesome event and to be a tourist...not to mention the shopping at the fair!

August is coming to a close and the summer was a whirlwind! Craft shows, cook outs, northern Michigan weekends, swimming, good times with fam and friends. Loved every minute!! The People's Art Festival in Detroit last weekend was a blast. Complete with artists, kick ass Detroiters, $2 Sailor Jerry and cokes, and lots and lots of sunshine made for a wonderful weekend. I snapped a few pictures of the beautiful and industrial Russel as well as a fab and supportive customer Annie, rocking two necklaces from my booth. Thank you Detroit and cheers to the final days of summer.

Back from Europe and reliving the trip through photographs. The first weekend we headed south from Cologne ( spotted a great old camper on the autobahn) and spent a night and day in Heidelberg. A lovely and picturesque university town straight from a story book We walked to the castle for sunset, had schnitzel and beers, a doner kebab for lunch the next day ( "fast" and delicious food), and stayed at the charming Gasthaus Blackmulde. Up next, the Rhein and Mosel Valley!

Just arrived back in Michigan from the Bloomington Handmade Market and a quick trip to Louisville to visit family. A big thank you to the gals who organize the event and to the awesome volunteers! The show was filled with amazing vendors, friendly visitors,and a sunny spring day. I traded with the super awesome and talented Megan of the Binding Bee for a lovely handmade journal, pictures to come. Dinner at Upland Brewery, drinks at the Atlas bar and Nick's, and a quick stop at the Irish Lion brought an end to our day. Thank you kind people of Bloomington for a great weekend!

Bloomington, IN is one of my favorite places to be and I am headed there this weekend for an awesome event, the Bloomington Handmade Market. It was a wonderful place to go to college and remains to be a great place to visit. Remembering stories, the feeling of the unknown, and of course the food! I always mentally prepare what I want to eat before I visit. Bloomington Bagel Company, which is provided at the craft fair, is often a stop. Followed by the Irish Lion where I worked in college (wings, brie plate, and beer anyone)? Maybe the Trojan Horse for lunch and no trip is complete without breakfast at the Runcible Spoon! To name just a few. I love Bloomington for its laid backness, the beautiful surroundings, and the amazing people. Feeling rejuvenated after a trip to Albuquerque and Santa Fe! The trip was filled with delicious food, cocktails, and laughs with old friends. Some of the highlights- P'Tit Louis French Bistro for a delicious long lunch filled with white wine, mussels, cheese, and a beet salad, cocktails at The Apothecary Bar above a boutique hotel which used to be a mental hospital, and exploring the Bosque park along the Rio Grande and roaming the streets of Santa Fe. Now, on to preparing for Bloomington Handmade Market next Saturday from 10am - 4pm!!

Gearing up for spring shows has begun, which means lots of road trips. Traveling is one of my favorite things. I love having a trip to look forward to and a place to research. Learning about foods, other cultures, and looking at pictures is my idea of an ideal way to spend time, in addition to making jewelry of course! My first show this year is in my college town and my home state, Bloomington, IN. The gals who organize the Bloomington Handmade Market have given me another reason to love this quaint university town. I can't wait to go! Amazing vendors, friendly people, and I can grab a pint in my old stomping grounds. I am also planning a trip to New Mexico this weekend, Germany/Amsterdam/Paris in mid April, and then Austin, TX in May for my 2nd Renegade Craft Fair!

This past weekend some old friends celebrated a dear friend and libations were had! I made a beet infused vodka for the occasion and if you like beets, it was delish and very easy. Peel, cut, and soak the beets in a bottle of vodka (I used three beets and infused in a Pyrex dish) for 36 hours. Strain, mix with simple syrup and fresh lemon/lime juice. Enjoy! We also had the opportunity to visit Half Acre Brewery in Chicago. It started out as friends making beer and now is a brick and mortar brewery, very inspiring! I love the beer, the art work for the tshirts and packaging, and the beer!

This winter I have been watching a ton of old movies. Growing up my Mom and I would watch old movies almost every weekend, especially anything with Katherine Hepburn or Audrey Hepburn (I never realized they have the same last name until now). I am newly inspired by "Charade" and vintage Paris. Stay tuned for some new pieces. Spring Craft Fair time is almost upon us! Working on new displays is my goal, thinking about them before I fall asleep and dreaming of them too. Guess I should building!

Which means perfect weather for snuggling and drinking warm beverages. One of the best things about loving in Michigan is hopping in the car and heading north. "Up North" means somewhere different depending on who you talk to. For us, it usually means the Charlevoix area. I love getting out of the city and enjoying the beauty of our state. This trip included snow, family, horses, eating and drinking, and more snow. 2011 is underway! I remember when 2000 felt so weird to say, now 2011? My resolutions of eating better are a faint memory:) When it is cold out, comfort food is my friend which means lots of pasta and bread. I have been working on new designs and updating etsy this month. I am so thankful to be a part of some amazing handmade stores and boutiques and working on consignment and wholesale as well. January, you are a great catch up month! This weekend I am heading to Chicago for the Urban Folk Circuit at Reggie's Rock in Chicago, Jan. 22nd 12-5pm. Then a quick stop in Indiana and on to Louisville to see my sister and her family. Louisville is a city I have yet to visit and I can wait to see my niece and nephew and head out and explore! Hope your January is going well!

Happy New Year! The holidays were a whirlwind of travel, family time, and relaxation. We road tripped to Boston this year and despite a snowstorm on the way there and a tire blow out on the way back, we had a wonderful trip. Boston was hit with 18 inches of snow and it was magical! We traipsed through the snow to the Warren Tavern, hang out of Paul Revere and warmed ourselves with a few pints and lobster rolls. I welcome 2011 and feel so blessed be a part of the handmade arts community and thankful for the amazing support in the last year, a little nostalgic really. Cheers to a 2011 filled with handmade goodness, family & friends, travel, and good food!! The first ever DIYpsi (pronounced dip-si) happened last weekend in historic depot town in Ypsilanti. Three talented artists put together the event and what an event it was! There was a great vibe throughout the whole day. I am always in awe at the people that come out to support the handmade community. I love it and it is such a great feeling to see other people do to:) Thanks to Marcy, Sherri, and Cre for organizing, to Chris for the awesome play list, and to all the people who braved the cold Michigan day!! This weekend I have my last two shows of the year. I can't believe how fast it has gone and feel so lucky to be a part of the handmade arts community. This year rocked my world and a big thanks to everyone for the support!! The Detroit Urban Craft Fair this past weekend really was like Christmas morning (you can tell by my pictures). The vibe around the Fillmore was pure excitement, vendors and shoppers alike. Throughout the busy weekend, I was in awe at the beauty of the Fillmore and of the amazing creativity in Detroit. I feel lucky to live in a place that embraces creativity and to be a part of this supportive handmade community. I ♥ you people of Detroit and DUCF! Nicole of Sloe Gin Fizz and I drove to Cincinnati for the Crafty Supermarket, a handmade craft fair at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. This historic HUGE building used to be an elementary school turned community arts center. A wonderful example of what to do with this kind of space when the money runs out. The organizers (Chris, Grace, and Alisha) were amazing, the people of OH so nice, and I ate a delicious Cowboy cheeseburger from the Cafe De Wheels food cart in under a minute. As always, I didn't walk around as much as I would have liked but did a little purchasing and trading at the end. After the show, our hostesses took us to the Northside hood and it was fab. We got to see the handmade store Fabricate which rocked, had a lovely sushi dinner- filled with laughs that will go down in history, stopped for a night cap at Comet, then hit the hay. It was an amazing trip and I am so thankful for the handmade community and all the amazing people I have been able to meet! And an especially big thanks to the gals of Crafty Supermarket and Nicole, may there be more road trips in our future. That sounded like a high school will:)

Lighthouses. Symbols of mystery and romance. I always imagine an old black and white film, like the Ghost of Mrs. Muir. Lots of shadows. The history is fascinating, imagining the day to day life as a light house keeper in 1857. Today lighthouses are my inspiration with the white facade, chipped paint, and blue water of lake superior. After updating etsy this week, the weekend is here. First, I am in search of the perfect carving pumpkin. Then on to Ann Arbor for some tailgating. I'm a Hoosier and we are serious tailgaters. I get excited about hats, snacks, drinks, the crisp air, scarfs, boys in uniform, and the crunch of the leaves. Not so much touchdowns and whistles. Today I found out I will be at the Detroit Urban Craft fair Dec. 4th and 5th at the Fillmore!! Thanks to everyone who came out to Renegade! I love participating in this fair. Heading back to my old stomping grounds, seeing friends, and a kick ass craft fair! The first stop of the weekend was dinner at Lilly Q's BBQ on North. The BBQ was insane, I would recommend the pulled pork with Carolina sauce and the beer selection was stellar. Renegade started off to a rainy morning but the sun came out and stayed out all weekend! The iced coffee horchata, friendly shoppers, and amazing artists made me a happy camper. Michigan's landscape is as diverse as the people and culture and that is why I love it so! Within a weeks time, I will have camped in the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula and participated in an awesome festival in downtown Detroit. I dig it. My first camping trip of the year is about to begin! The boyfriend and I are heading up north to the Upper Peninsula. Destination Tahquamenon Falls. I see swimming, hiking, breweries, and whitefish on the horizon. Next weekend is People's Art Festival in downtown Detroit and then Renegade Chicago Sept 11 and 12th, hope to see you there! The much anticipated Maker Faire is almost here!! The event is taking place in Dearborn at the Henry Ford in Greenfield Village July 31 9:30-8pm and Sun Aug 1 9:30-5pm. Maker Faire is a family fun festival to Make, create, learn, invent, Craft, recycle, build, think, play, and be inspired. This is the first time the event will be in the D, it has been in NY, San Fran, and Austin. Happy Summer Solstice and cheers to the longest day of the year! I can't believe it is officially summer. In Indiana we say the corn will be "knee high by the fourth of July". I hope the corn grows a little slower this year to prolong summer! We finally planted our garden last week, a little late this year. We planted green tower and leaf lettuce, green peppers, banana peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, 5 kinds of tomatoes, jalapenos, and lots o beans. Today I am shipping out consignment orders to some rad shops. Check them out if you live in the respective cities.

Constructor Craft Fair

The spring shows I was fortunate to be a part of have been a blast! Renegade Austin was awesome, I visited some friends and made my first trip to Texas, yee haw! Lots of delicious food, live music, and friendly Texans. I think I could live there! The Constructor Craft fair was amazing, loved the venue and the gals who put on the show know how to throw an awesome event. The Indie-ana Handi-craft Exchange was a delight, as always. I love going to my home state for their events and can't wait to see the new store, Homespun. Check it out, www.homespunindy.com. All in all, I love what I do and one of my favorite parts of the handmade shows is meeting people and talking with customers and other crafters face to face. Mexico was amazing, the natural beauty and lovely people make it a place I will think of often. I had a wonderful time relaxing and drinking cervezas with family and friends, thank you Mexico. The Handmade Detroit's Craft Revival last Saturday was a great event! I met new people and saw some familiar faces, which is always fun. I shared a space with Amanda from Dang Argyle (www.dangargyle.com) near the "forest", an area with sky lights, handmade wood benches, tress, and a DJ...very cool. Our table was next to Caitlin from Nice (www.nice.etsy.com) a Chicago crafter with beautiful items. My purchases- handmade towels for Mom and a wine bottle cover with a cuckoo clock for myself, all from Lish Dorset (http://myvintagekitschen.com/). The sun is shining and the feeling of spring is in the air, which means spring craft shows are just around the corner. I love spring shows, the sense of excitement knowing that outdoor weather activities are about to start. Barbecues, farmers markets, wearing flip flops, laying in the hammock- to name a few. My first spring show is March 13 and 14 in St Louis, MO Indie Craft Revolution at Oak Knoll Park. Road Trip! February is about the time I start daydreaming of warmer weather, this year is no exception. I love the snow but was inspired by pictures of the beach today. Vero Bracelet is brass and patina. The patina is a bright turquoise that reminds me of Vero Beach, FL where my family has gone since we were kids. Only two more months and we will be there! Bring on the sunshine, cook outs, and pina coladas.

Moss Moss Everywhere

On my recent trip to Portland, I was amazed at all the beautiful moss and plant life. Hiking up to Multnomah Falls was my favorite part of the trip, and the most breathtaking. I am inspired to create a greener patina on copper and started with Fern Necklace. Sour beer, along with a beet, squash, and hazelnut salad were some of the food highlights.

Halloween is coming up and the festivities are under way. This past week I visited my family in Philadelphia and had a blast. Philadelphia is filled with interesting places to photograph and the history is everywhere you look. We took my niece to the Please Touch Museum for a Halloween party and it was awesome, there was so much for the kids to do and such cute costumes. Cider Mills Here I Come

Michigan has the best Cider Mills, in my opinion. This is my fourth year living in the state and it is still one of my favorite things to do. The leaves start changing, the air is crisp, and it is Cider Mill time. It is makes me feel like a kid again. I always look forward to honey crisp apples, cider, jam, and the best cinnamon and sugar doughnuts. Each year, we try to go somewhere new and this Saturday the Franklin Cider Mill, founded in 1837, is our destination. If you live in MI, maybe I will see you there! The summer flew by, as always, and here we are with fall upon us. A few summer highlights- a week long trip to New Orleans, participating in Coterie at Pitchfork Music Festival (coteriechicago.com), and a trip to Saugatuck, MI-all in all a lovely summer. The weather is becoming chillier and it is time to pull out the chunky sweaters, which means fall craft shows are here as well! Summer is almost here and the spring has flown by! I participated in some great spring shows with amazing artists and crafters. May is here! Spring is everywhere and I am loving it. The flowers in bloom have inspired me even more to focus on vivid colors. Bracelets are my new favs, this winter I wore mainly earrings and now I am really into bracelets and necklaces. Today is Earth Day! Everyday is earth day and I am trying to implement ways to live a greener life. Sunshine, sand, warm weather, and cook outs are all I have on my to do list and I can't wait. The time is here for spring Craft Show planning and applying. So far, Indie-ana Handicraft Exchange and Renegade Brooklyn are my crafting destinations. More info on these shows to come.

My trip last weekend to Asheville, NC was an inspiring one. Signs of spring were popping up everywhere, the above earrings are a few items made this week . The city itself was bursting with creativity, from the music to the delicious restaurants to the unique boutiques. A few highlights were beers and conversation at the Thirsty Monk, the best nachos around at Salsa, Mofro concert at the Orange Peel, breakfast at Over Easy, the history and architecture at the Biltmore, Bread Festival at Greenlife Market, and driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. If only every city could take a lesson from Asheville in green living, our country would be a better place. Taking pictures when I travel is a must, I like to look back and remember places, people, and the feeling of travelling. Here is a sampling:)

Congrats to Jess for winning "Grow" earrings.
